How We Stay Nourished in Our Busy Household

As a mom of two kiddos and two dogs along with my crazy work schedule, travel, and endless errands, I find it can be hard to stay nourished in our busy household. I especially struggle to eat a proper breakfast and I know I’m not alone on this one … right mamas?! On an average day, Justin and I are racing around the house in the morning, trying to get the kids fed, Leo off to school, and wrangling the dogs all while trying to get ourselves ready for the day! Once the chaos in the house settles a little, it doesn’t take me long to realize that I’m starving but by then I feel like I don’t have enough time to make something for breakfast so I find myself eating Leo’s leftovers which typically includes half-eaten pancakes or soggy pieces of toast and avocado. Dreamy, right?! LOL!

Back in the day, I would have been able to roll with this as I feel like I’m used to running off of fumes (it seems as though that’s all I used to do!). However, after having two kids, I started noticing that if I don’t get a nourishing meal for breakfast to kickstart the day, or a filling and healthy dinner, my mood and energy levels are majorly impacted! In fact, if you listen to my recent Podcast with Raw Beauty Talks, around the 20-minute mark, I breakdown about the struggle of trying to find that perfect work-life balance, finding time to “do it all” AND eat properly. Please tell me some of you struggle with this too?!

Well, a few months ago, I decided it was time to buckle down and come up with a solution that would take some of the pressure off when it came to eating proper (and healthy!) meals. So, I opened up my computer and did some research and that’s when I came across Goodfood. Goodfood is a meal kit which includes farm-fresh ingredients along with delicious recipes and to top it off … they deliver directly to your doorstep! Pinch me!

We’ve been using the Goodfood dinners (unsponsored in case you were wondering!) in our home twice a week for about six months now and they are AMAZING! I love the fact that everything shows up fresh and ready to go and I don’t have to worry about thinking of something to make for dinner or picking up groceries! I know many of you moms out there are with me on this one!! THEN, about two months ago (just when I thought it couldn’t get any better!) I noticed they started offering smoothies and I was BEYOND excited to give these a try! So I ordered some up and I have been hooked ever since.

Fast forward a couple of months (to a few weeks ago!) and Goodfood reached out to me to see if I would be open to a partnership, in my mind, it was a match made in heaven considering I had been using and testing out their stuff for a solid six months already and I was so in love with everything!

So, today, I wanted to take the time and share a little bit about their smoothies with you because this is way too good not to share! Before Goodfood was in our lives, I had started making us smoothies for breakfast (when I was able to find a spare 10 minutes, that is!). We all love smoothies in our household but after making the same smoothie over and over, I started getting sick of it (I’m certainly not a creature of habit!) and I started to get concerned that we weren’t getting the proper amount of greens, nutrients, and proteins that our bodies needed. So, when Goodfood Smoothies came out, I JUMPED at the opportunity to try them and I’m so happy I did!

Goodfood offers 14 (and counting!) different smoothie flavours that are jam-packed with superfoods and fruit & veggies that are picked at peak ripeness and flash-frozen at the farm! I love the variety of flavours because we can switch things up when we’re craving a change! Justin and I have tried every flavour and so far my favourite is the Acai Bellini and Justin’s is the Cold Brew Crisp – the caffeine gives you a little kick in the butt in the morning … which is exactly what we need some days!

They’re super simple (and quick!) to make as they come ready to blend – all you have to do is add the contents to a blender along with your desired milk, (I love oat milk in mine!), blend it all up until it’s smooth, pour it back into the container it came in and enjoy!! I love the fact that I can quickly blend these up in the morning and not have to worry about whether or not I’m getting the nutrients my body needs (seriously you guys won’t believe how many superfoods are in each of these smoothies!). Plus, some mornings I like to add a little more oat milk to the blender which actually makes close to two cups of smoothie which means not only do I get my smoothie but Leo and Annie can enjoy some as well! They’re perfect for when you’re running out the door or for when you are in a pinch! Oh, and Goodfood hinted to me that smoothies are only the first product in their line of breakfast solutions.     Super curious about these! When you first did an instastory i was looking into it and couldn’t figure out if I could order just one flavour…do you know? I have allergies so I don’t want some flavours. Thanks team jilly, you guys rock!

    Ahhh this is so brilliant. I’m not even a mom yet but still, struggle with breakfast ideas and healthy ones to boot. I get so bored of the same old thing. I love smoothies but finding the time and something different is always the challenge. Thank you for sharing. I just made my first order!!
